I) Rules for Annual European Rheology Conferences
- There shall be an Annual European Rheology Conference (AERC) from 2003 onwards, except for years of the International Congress on Rheology. Decision on the location of the AERC shall be reached at least 2 years in advance.
- The AERC shall be in the spring of each year, having typically a duration of 3 days.
- The AERC shall be broad in scope, majoring on recent developments, with ample time for general discussions.
- A Chairperson/Organiser, who is wholly responsible for the planning and running of the event, is appointed. A Co-Chairperson from a different country can share the responsibility for the AERC. The Chairperson is requested to cooperate with and to inform periodically the ESR Officers by E-mail before important decisions are made or changes introduced, and to ask them for support or advice when necessary.
- The AERC shall consist of invited plenary/keynote lectures, oral and poster sessions, organized by session chairpersons (typically 2 for each session) from different rheology groups.
- The selection of papers shall be based on abstracts (300 words) submitted preferably electronically on the ESR website at http://www.rheology-esr.org three to five month before the conference. Abstracts of accepted papers are published in the conference programme. No proceedings are published.
- It will be the responsibility of the Chairperson to cover the expense of the conference. Costs for participants should be kept low, and the attendance of young scientists should be facilitated. E-mails and websites should be used extensively for efficiency and cheapness. Plenary/keynote lecturers and session chairpersons shall not be paid expenses.
- The Chairperson will send in due time appropriate information and documents to the ESR, which will use actively the materials received for publicity, including in scientific journals. Booklets of abstracts and any information received may be made available on the ESR web-site, and reproduced in part in the ESR Newsletter.
- The Chairperson is asked to quote the name "Annual European Rheology Conference (year)" on all appropriate documents, booklets of abstracts, CD boxes, announcements etc. All such documents should carry the name "ESR" at their top left corner, followed by "European Society of Rheology" and the "logo" of the ESR at their top right corner (see ESR letter head). When it is printed, the margin of documents should carry "ESR" at their top and the ESR "logo" at their basis. The name "Annual
European Rheology Conference (year)" should be printed centred on a line below the top line devoted to ESR identification. The address of the ESR website should be given on the first page of the cover of every document.
- The Chairperson will send in electronic form to the ESR Officers within one month after the event is finished, a brief report including scientific information, the number of participants from different countries, the programme, the financial arrangements, any opinion or suggestion, a set of documents prepared for the event, a list of participants and their e-mail addresses.
- The Chairperson will pay 20 Euro per participant to the ESR Treasurer within one month after the event.
Due to the time constraint with the 6th European Rheology Conference in September 2002, and the preparations already under way for a Southern European Rheology Meeting (Guimaraes, Portugal, September 2003), the Executive Council decided:
- The AERC 2003 shall be in Guimaraes, Portugal, (exceptionally) in September 2003.
- Decisions about the locations of AERC 2005 and AERC 2006 will be made in Guimaraes at AERC 2003. Proposals will be pre-screened by the Executive Council and are invited to the Secretary of the ESR not later than March 31, 2003.
The schedule for the Weissenberg Award will not be changed. The award will be delivered biannually in even years (ICR 2004 in Seoul, AERC 2006).
II) Rules for Eurorheo Conferences and European Rheology Schools:
Eurorheo Conferences and European Rheology Schools are defined as follows:

The number of participants should be limited, and there should be ample time for discussion. Eurorheo Conferences should be informal in character. Parallel sessions are not appropriate. Introductory or review lectures may be valuable.
As agreed at the 3rd Executive Council meeting (1998), European Rheology Schools shall have
- Lecturers from at least 2 European countries;
- Equal access for members of all European Rheology Groups.
Proposals for Eurorheo Conferences and European Rheology Schools can be submitted via the ESR website at http://www.rheology-esr.org and will be administered by the ESR Subcommittee on Thematic Rheology Conferences and European Rheology Schools (Paula Moldenaers (chair), Cris Gallegos, Igor Emri, Pino Marrucci, Peter Szabo).

- The Chairperson will send in due time appropriate information and documents to the ESR, which will use actively the materials received for publicity, including in scientific journals. Booklets of abstracts and any information received may be made available on the ESR web-site, and reproduced in part in the ESR Newsletter.
- The Chairperson is asked to quote the number assigned to the event on all appropriate documents, booklets of abstracts, CD boxes, announcements etc. All such documents should carry the name "ESR" at their top left corner, followed by "European Society of Rheology" and the "logo" of the ESR at their top right corner (see ESR letter head).
